Windows 10 is coming to end of life; here is what you need to know!

Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14th, 2025. But what does this mean for you—and what should you do about it?

What does “End of Life” mean?

After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, or technical support for Windows 10. This makes any device still running it more vulnerable to security threats, and some apps or software may stop working properly.

So, what can you do?

When Support for Windows 10 does come to an end you have a limited number of options depending on your computer.

Upgrade to Windows 11!

If your computer is compatible, you can upgrade to Windows 11 for free. To check compatibility, download Microsoft’s PC Health Check app from the Microsoft website. Or on your computer, go to Settings and then Windows Update.

And if you are still not sure? Just bring your device to us at TECH FIX Skegness—we’ll check and upgrade it for you.

My computer is not compatible with Windows 11

If your computer is not compatible with Windows 11, you have a few options, the first is to simply purchase a new or refurbished computer that has Windows 11.

We’re happy to help you find something that suits your needs and your budget.

What about my Documents?

No need to worry — your important files, photos, and documents can be safely transferred to your new computer. Simply bring your old and new computer to TECH FIX Skegness (or just your old one if we’re sourcing your new PC) and we’ll handle the transfer for you, making sure nothing gets left behind.

Can I just stay on Windows 10?

Yes, you can—but there are some important things to consider:

  • You’ll be at increased risk of viruses and cyberattacks, especially if the computer stays connected to the internet.

  • Some programs and apps may stop receiving updates or stop working entirely.

  • We strongly recommend using a reliable antivirus program and disconnecting from the internet if you plan to keep using Windows 10 long-term.

Can I pay to keep Windows 10 support?

Microsoft will offer Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for businesses and educational institutions for a yearly fee.
As of now, this is not available to home users—but this may change. For the latest updates, search online for “Windows 10 ESU.”

Is it possible to install Windows 11 on unsupported computers?

While it’s technically possible to bypass hardware checks and install Windows 11 on unsupported systems, we don’t recommend it. You may experience instability, crashes, and limited updates—leaving you just as vulnerable as staying on Windows 10.

So, in short what should you do?

1.    Check if your computer is compatible with Windows 11

2.     If compatible, install the free upgrade

3.     If not, start looking for a replacement device

4. Transfer all your personal files from your old PC to your new one - TECH FIX Skegness can also handle this for you.

5.     If sticking with Windows 10, disconnect from the internet and use strong antivirus protection

6.     If staying online, look into Windows 10 ESU, but know this only buys you time until October 2026

7.     Or better yet—visit TECH FIX Skegness, and we’ll take care of everything for you!
